April was the first time I got to shoot as an official photographer for the Texas Rollergirls. It was certainly interesting to see the bout from zebra land. I never felt like I got into a groove the whole night, not sure if it was nerves, or just trying different camera settings.

The first bout was the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers and the Hotrod Honeys. The Heartbreakers took an early lead, and held it till the second period, when the Honeys pulled a great comeback. The match ended in a nail biter of a final jam. I have also never seen the penalty box have such a revolving door.

Final score: Honky Tonk Heartbreakers 136 – Hotrod Honeys 134

Next up was Hell Marys and the Hustlers. The Hell Marys took an early lead, and held it for the whole bout. The Hell Marys are now up 2-0 on the season, and have looked impressive.

Final score: Hell Marys 165 – Hustlers 69

The Derby Brats scrimmaged during both Halftimes, and they were just great.

This month I decided to do something different, and just use some of the B/W shots I ended up with.

My complete set is here, and the official gallery is here.

Hope to see you there next month, it should be a great matchup: The Texecutioners vs the Portland Wheels of Justice. Both all star teams, it should make for some great flat track action.

Maya

Maya

Maya was my loyal friend, companion of 15+ years, sweet dog, and most of all my lovely little girl. Hard decisions sometimes must be made, and even though they are the right decision, it never makes them any easier. I will miss her immensely. I know in time, that the painful memories fade, and the happier memory intensify. This is a good thing, since I really do want to remember her in the special way that made my life better. I hope you, and the others that have gone before are all in a much better place, but never doubt I remember you all, and on some days miss you horribly, but I still relish the times we shared. A few photos of her, not necessarily good, but good to me, and in the end that is what really counts, just capturing moments, and memories. My little girl, may your runs be long, the scents fresh, and I know you will catch the deer in the end. Thank you for sharing so much with me, I love you so much, and I will miss you terribly.

The 2012 edition of HonkTX is this weekend. If you get a chance you should really go check out the fantastic gathering of street band events happening over Austin this weekend. Family friendly, fun, and definitely something you will not see everyday! A complete set of my photos from last year is available here.

HonkTX runs March 23rd-25th, complete event details and schedules are available at the HonkTX site.
